The things that come up at the Mute Wall by night. Three metres long, going on all fours, black-grey scaled hide, with no eyes at the centre of the face — only a depression. The howl comes out of that depression.

A line of footprints in the snow, shaped like a man's, with 6 toes. It walked from the foot of the wall to the back of the tower, turning aside for nothing, stepping into nothing, and then it simply stopped. The old wallmen say: that is not like a beast, it is like a person who has been forgotten.
