An old soldier who guarded the Mutewall for 30 years said some things, after retiring, that no one likes to hear. 'The wall is 100 meters high, built of black stone. By day it looks like a wall; at night you'll see writing on it, glowing blue. Those are the names of the kings down the ages. In all my years guarding the wall, I watched them—one by one—vanish on their own.'
