From the empty ice plain's side: the thing at the edge of an impossible void leaves no footprints, no breath, no sensor trace. It waits for the exact second a lens 300 meters up wakes—then lifts its head and greets the man who opens it.

In Jiangbao Fortress, the thirteenth-generation guardian Atherone finds a new carving on the ancient war-chronicle slab — a string of symbols that matches the long-awaited Mark of the Revelator. A sealed scroll, untouched for generations, finally tells him what to do.

Lika cuts every line, opens a back door into Spectra's depths, and searches for his own private signature — expecting one result. He gets 4,891, the earliest dated eighty-five years ago, all verified by a signature that signs itself.

Rather than dig further online and risk alerting whatever bears his name, Lika packs gear, schedules a cryptic message to his assistant, and marks himself en route to S-17-R. He walks out into the predawn city toward the craft waiting for him.

Lika lifts off in his fully offline test craft, invisible to Spectra. His millennia-old signature forces open a forbidden shortcut across three continents — and he notices every one of the 4,891 records synced with something Spectra refused to name.

Mid-flight, Lika recalls a life seventy-eight years past, as investigator Allen Trist, and a short report naming the coordinate S-17-R. The record's timestamp falls exactly on a blank in his memory — a fog point he cannot fill.

Lika lands at S-17-R and walks to the absence cut clean from the snowfield. He rolls a test ball at it — and it vanishes, leaving no trace in any record. On site, the truth flips: nothing is there; something was taken away.

Beneath Saint Tranya, Morpheus watches a screen that hasn't gone dark in eighty-five years. He refuses to call the L.K.S._Core signature "he," and orders no interception — they have waited not for its return, but for it to forget and walk in again.

Crouched at the boundary, Lika hears four words leave his own throat — a term found in no database he can reach. He weighs madness, a hack, and a third answer he can't avoid, then tosses a second ball. The boundary flickers and reacts.

The second ball returns against every physical rule, its memory blank. Lika reaches a fingertip into the boundary and his neural channel goes dead silent. He concludes the boundary is learning — and a module he wrote long ago begins to self-start.

A module signed in his own name overrides Lika's top priority and surfaces a letter written eighty-five years ago to his future self, warning him not to remember. The backup reads 0.04 percent complete — and across the trench, Morpheus says the seventh layer has begun.

Beyond S-17-R, Lika watches the snow slide as one sheet toward a bare patch, the ground's coordinates drifting a millimeter a second. This is no earthquake — the world itself is being re-surveyed, rewritten, and he is being written in with it.

Twelve hundred meters beneath the surface, a priest crouches at an ancient altar disc carved with inverted runes. It turns one notch, then seven — a motion his deepest texts barely describe — and he sends word up the chain that the Writer is in position.

A cold violet-blue light blooms at the bare patch's center, drawing impossibly straight lines of code across the ice. Spectra can't match 25 of the characters — but Lika can. They're written in his own hand, in his own speed, by a Writer he isn't.

In a Saint Tranya monitoring station, observer K-9 watches every alarm trip at once — a Code Black, never once triggered. Subways halt, airships divert, and Spectra coins a classification of its own: the Rift. On site stands one anonymous observer, registered NULL.

Lika receives the same network-wide alert through his old backdoors — and sees the system has logged him as NULL, a throwaway rule from eight months ago that happens to shield him now. Faced with leave, stay, or go in, he stands up and chooses the door.

Lika reaches the boundary at S-17-R and reads the final prompt: the observer must actively enter. He lifts a foot over the edge — and the system begins to download him, sense by sense, until only his brain-chip remains, and a familiar signature welcomes him in.

Lika wakes inside Rift Memory - Layer 1, a high-fidelity copy while his flesh stays exposed at S-17-R. A passage of giant ice crystals runs downward, eerily familiar though he's never been here. Then something sealed in the ice slowly turns its head toward him.

Lika realizes the whole layer runs on one shared clock. A cluster of scaled tendrils sits sealed in the ice, refusing to be identified. Treating it as a system that won't answer, he sets down his test ball as an offering — and the residents begin to wake en masse.

The tendrils emerge, dangling a carved seed the system reads as dead and refuses. Two words on his retina nearly drop him with a headache from a memory he can't recall. A Spectra query reveals his own signature locked the word away 85 years ago — and now the seed is being rewritten.

As his past self's write operation saturates the render queue, the Instance starts to stutter and a patch of wall glitches to expose the raw code layer. Lika recognizes the opening and piggybacks a forbidden query through the overflow — then the Instance notices, and can't trace him.

The Instance must judge whether an unauthorized command is a violation or a legitimate extension — and its answer hinges on a signature written eighty-five years ago. When the verdict lands, Lika feels a sense he has never owned in a thousand years of merely reading the world.

The clock keeps drifting slower, and Lika realizes the whole layer's cadence moves with something's breath. As he walks toward the passage's end, the floor stops rendering beneath him and the thing ahead begins, beat by beat, to sense exactly where he stands.

Crouching at a seam in the ice, Lika finds a carving he recognizes — a mark he has carried on his arm for as long as he can remember, one he has hidden from everyone, even himself. A locked archive entry forces him to reconsider who he has been all along.

Verification passes, the breathing turns urgent, and the ice at the passage's end splits open. A scaled, clawed shape crawls up from a lower layer, stands, and looks at Lika — speaking straight into his mind with a message he did not expect.

The thing closes in, its render priority higher than Lika's own, and Lika's Triggerer commands fail against it. He dodges a claw he should never have escaped, then reads the signature — and realizes the enemy in front of him was written into the Instance by the past him.

Downgraded to READONLY and unable to flee, Lika gambles on a lifelong habit: every important system he ever built has a hidden way in. Watching the claw come down, his internal viewpoint surfaces a path the Instance pretends not to see — and the timing of what follows feels too perfect to be chance.

Lika slips a command through a door the Instance refuses to scan, seizing brief ROOT privilege to strip his opponent's render priority and turn the layer's own gravity against it. He wins the first fight without a single punch — but the dying enemy's last message names someone watching from outside.

The view shifts to the shadow no instrument can read, standing on the far side of the Rift. It has been waiting for him to step through that door. Lika thinks he won the first fight; it only feels one thing — satisfied.

Lika crouches beside the fallen enemy, and the Instance starts a snapshot without waiting for his order. A word he's never seen jumps out — Shadow. He pauses half a second, then reaches for "bind."

Lika names his first shadow: Shadow_001. The thing that wanted to cut him down a moment ago bows to him. He tries to read the fragments deepest in its body, but even the owner can't open them — and it keeps staring at the crack in the dome.

Trial passed, Lika brings his first shadow out of the Instance and back to the frozen snowfield. Inside it felt like hours of walking, fighting, and rewriting; outside only 16 minutes have gone by — and Spectra has already logged him stepping across the boundary.

On the return flight, Lika overwrites the official record of his crossing into the Rift with L.K.S._Core — but the cleanup chains across seven sub-databases on its own, and the access log shows someone had already read the record at 11:24, ten minutes ahead of him.

On an ice plain with no timestamp and no coordinates, a heavily pregnant woman kneels before a row of bent, half-buried backs. She draws a reversed mark on the ice and speaks a single sound into her belly — a sound that keeps the one who hears it from ever being found. I will hide you.

Minutes before touchdown, Lika’s self-built brain-chip does the one thing it never does — it acts on its own, dropping a note he never wrote: "L.K.S._Core is more than just a code name." Below it, a stretch he can’t read, and a number that says this is only the first.

Lika traces his own memory for the first time. The records break off at March 11, Kaiyuan Year 925 — and whoever locked them held his key.
