Null Seventh

Seventeen-year-old Qiu Che was no different from anyone his age until his perception-correction module failed. That module is standard issue, implanted in every citizen from childhood, and its function is to filter out whatever reality contains that is not supposed to be seen. With it broken, he starts seeing the error codes written into the substrate: stray values flickering at the corner of a wall, fields surfacing briefly on a passerby, and people who do not appear in any registry at all. The system's classification for him is Class-3 Data Contamination.

Classified, he flees into the city's blind spot — the Glitch District, an area that does not exist in the municipal database and is therefore outside the governance system's reach. The price is that the people living inside do not exist either: no identity, no rations, no medical care. Here his mentor Zhou Weiyang takes him into the Unregistered Academy, a school that cannot be indexed. Alongside his classmate Shen Li, he learns the premise the entire work turns on: spells aren't spells — they're syntax for rewriting the world.

That premise gives the "magic" here very hard rules. Casting is equivalent to submitting a write request against reality, and requests are logged, can be denied, and leave an audit trail. Insufficient clearance means the edit fails; too many edits means you get traced. The protagonist's growth curve runs on clearance escalation rather than raw power: each tier up requires first understanding why the people on the tier above locked the door.

The work spans nine volumes: Illegal Reality Request / Glitch City / Null Protocol / Seven Clearances / The First Door Event / Same-Portal Convergence / Mirror of the Dome Law / The Seventh Verdict / The Null Gate Opens. Early arcs cover flight and enrollment, where the protagonist learns to stay alive. The middle enters the clearance hierarchy and the factional argument inside the academy. The later arcs confront the governance system's own origins — and what, exactly, it is preventing.

The core question isn't "how cool is it to wield magic." It's this: if the world itself is a locked system, do humans have the right to seize back the ability to edit it? The work gives both sides hard reasons. The governance lockdown has genuinely prevented catastrophes, and the case for unsealing rests on genuine injustice. The protagonist is not choosing between good and evil. He is choosing between two options that both get people killed.
