The L.K.S._Core Signature

L.K.S._Core is a signature. It runs on its own independent channel and can act without any neural-crystal link to the original body—the signature itself behaves like something that exists apart from the person.

Procedurally, this string was only set down 8 months ago in an internal protocol at QuarktoLabs: never published, never submitted to the Spectra main library, not even the founder's assistant knew the string existed.

The problem with it is time. In Spectra's archive this signature has executed 4,891 syncs across 85 years, the earliest carrying a timestamp of 02:14:08 on 11 March, Kaiyuan Year 925. Stranger still is the "sync target" field on those 4,891 records—every one of them reads "not recorded." The fourth of them is marked 23:58:11 on 25 November, Kaiyuan Year 932, at S-17-R in the Frozen Northern Reach, with the reason given as "Observer re-sync."

The Rift Instance takes a blunter view of the signature: it treats the signature as an "identity extension," and everything touched by the signature is treated as the man himself. When the Instance's render queue hit 89% and the whole layer began to drift, it let this signature keep writing regardless, with no ceiling set.

Different places tell it differently. Spectra treats it as an executor designation, fills it into the "executor" field on archiving and closes the case; someone in the undercity of Saint Tranya has been watching it and waiting 85 years while insisting "that signature is not him," on the grounds that across 4,891 syncs it never said a single word to them; on the thousand-year slab at Jiangbao in the Badlands it is a string of carving that split open one night of its own accord, edges sharp, and the Order of Light and Shadow calls that the Revelator's Mark, though the people who have guarded it for more than ten generations aren't even certain what language it is.

It has locked words, too. Some strings in Spectra return nothing but "historical archive · not interpretable," last modified 11 March, Kaiyuan Year 925, with the same string in the signature field.

One line in the Observer's notes gets quoted over and over:

L.K.S._Core is more than your designation.

The most unsettling part: even the man considered to "own" this signature cannot trace what it has actually done.
