Past the cave mouth stand 62 figures, 31 facing pairs. The deepest pair guards a two-ton stone gate. Their pupils are carved as a single vertical line.

An invisible line in the mountain gully. Cross it, and a dog turns and bolts; a person suddenly can no longer hear the sounds beyond the gully. The two sides feel governed by two sets of rules.

A nameless imperial tomb in the Guanzhong mountains. On the surface, only a small village shrine pressing down on a breath-mouth, and a stele worn down until only the two characters 'Gate of the Emperor' can be made out.
