Strange Tales Collection | Three Rules Left by an Unnamed Restorer

The contributor says this note was tucked inside an old artifact-restoration manual he bought at a used bookstore. The paper has yellowed, the writing is in fountain pen, with no signature and no date. On it are only three rules, and a final half-sentence left unfinished. We transcribe it as is; the punctuation was added afterward.

To whoever takes over this desk:

One. The things on the desk — look first, don't touch first. Before you touch, ask yourself one question: this object, the last person who touched it — what became of them afterward? If you can't find out, then don't touch it yet.

Two. Keep two copies of your records. One submitted as regulations require, one kept by yourself, locked away. The day the two don't match, trust the one you locked away.

Three. If one day you find that some object's record has been altered, and the only one who can enter this room is yourself — don't be afraid. Don't be afraid, first. The moment you fear it, it has found you.

At the end of the note, there is one more half-line; the fountain-pen ink suddenly grows faint, as if the writer changed his mind partway:

The Myriad Dao is flawed —

There is nothing after.

The contributor searched the entire manual and could not find the latter half. He asked us if we knew what it meant. We don't.
