The City's Other Side

A harbor city in 2065: a maglev line standing on newly filled land, oil still burning in the temples of the old quarter. The Rivermag Line was built along a Qing-dynasty river channel, 15 stations end to end.

The last train on the Rivermag Line is 23:48. But on some nights, after the last train has gone, another one comes that is not on the timetable, and its terminus is Platform Thirteen, which exists on no route at all.

Every city has two maps. The daytime one records roads and administrative districts; the other is called the night map, and it records the earth-pulse, the wards, the old temples, the territories of yaoguai. Most people see only the first one their whole lives.
